The Colorado Charter School Institute approved the ECHS at Westminster charter application on November 13, 2007. The vote of the members present was unanimous. ECHS will open with 130 ninth-grade students in August 2008.
According to founder and CEO, Chris Gerboth, "The unanimous approval of the Charter School Institute board validates a real need in the community for a small, early college high school. We are grateful for the rigorous review of our application, and look forward to working with the institute board to create an outstanding school of choice."
The institutes's action included no contingencies for final approval. The charter was granted for five years, beginning July 1, 2008.
